Longtime Detroit sports columnist and radio host Pat Caputo died on Thursday, May 7, his family announced via social media. He was 67.
“Today May 7th we lost Pat to cancer. Pat was surrounded by his family. Thank you for all your support,” the family posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday.
Caputo announced on Jan. 5 that he had been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer.
Caputo was a part of WXYT’s “Evening Sports” broadcast and previously worked at The Oakland Press from 1983-2020, becoming one of the most recognizable sports columnists in the Detroit metro area.
He was an alumnus of Birmingham Groves High School and Michigan State University.
Caputo’s passing brought out many tributes on social media.
