San Angelo’s own Dave Ogburn will compete in the world-renowned motorsport circuit known as the 24 Hours of Nürburgring in Nürburg, Germany, on May 16–17.
A professional test driver and driving coach, Ogburn moved to San Angelo in 2010 to begin his career as a tire and performance test driver for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company.
Ogburn will be the first citizen from San Angelo to enter and compete in the grueling endurance race, which combines two circuits through Germany’s Eifel mountains to create a 15.7-mile track. He will be one of 580 professional and amateur racers competing over a full 24 hours of non-stop racing, including Formula 1 star Max Verstappen.
Representing both Texas and the United States, Ogburn is one of four drivers in the only all-American driver lineup to compete in this year’s 24 Hours Nürburgring and will be one of 22 drivers across all teams from the United States. His teammates include Judson Holt of Houston, Texas, Denny Stripling of Dallas, Texas, and Russ Turner of Richmond, Virginia.
Ogburn and his team will be behind the wheel of the #180 AV Racing by Black Falcon BMW M4 GT4, nicknamed “Tex,” boasting a bold Texas flag design. To prepare for the 24-hour race, the team competed in three four-hour races, with Ogburn piloting Tex to two pole positions, while the team finished on the podium three times and won twice.
“I am incredibly excited to compete in my first 24H Nürburgring. It will be the biggest event I’ve ever raced in, but the team and I are ready,” Ogburn said. “To race at the Nürburgring is a dream come true, and we are proud to represent Texas and the USA against some of the world’s best drivers.”
