Monroe council names Mark Cochran interim city manager

MONROE, MI — During its meeting on Monday night, May 4, the Monroe City Council unanimously voted to make director of economic and community development Mark Cochran the interim city manager.

“We can’t wait to see how this all goes,” said council member Deb Staelgraeve.

City Manager David Robinson submitted his retirement letter to the city council, which accepted it during their meeting on April 20. During that same meeting, Cochran, who was also serving as assistant manager, was chosen to be the acting city manager. According to the retirement agreement, Robinson is currently acting as consultant until his term of employment ends on May 30. He intends to retire on June 1.

“The City of Monroe is grateful for Mr. Robinson’s service and contributions,” the city said in a statement.

According to the city’s communication specialist Amy Mohr, Cochran will continue to serve in his role as director of economic and community development.

During a special meeting on May 4, the city council considered three possible ways forward: immediately hiring a new manager as soon as possible, keeping Cochran in the interim position until they find someone, and a combined approach. There have been no official plans adopted so far.
