Popular Aldi dessert recalled in NY and other states. What to know

Check your fridge. Thousands of cases of a popular Aldi dessert have been recalled because the food may be contaminated with glass fragments.

Lactalis, a Canadian-based dairy production company, last month issued a recall of about 2,800 cases of crème brûlée desserts sold at Aldi stores in seven states including New York, according to an enforcement report from the Food and Drug Administration.

The impacted desserts are sold under Aldi’s Specially Selected brand and are refrigerated. According to the report, they were removed from shelves because they “may contain foreign objects, specifically glass.”

The company initiated the recall in mid-April, but the FDA categorized it as a Class II recall on April 28. A Class II recall indicates that the use of or exposure to the product may cause temporary, reversible adverse health effects, according to the FDA.

Here’s what you need to know:

What should you do if you purchased the recalled Aldi dessert

Aldi and Lactalis have not specified whether customers who have the recalled crème brûlée can get a refund or should discard the product. That said, most Aldi stores offer a money-back guarantee for in-store purchases under its. “Twice as Nice” guarantee.

Through the guarantee, customers can return the product packaging and any unused portion of product to the Aldi store. The item would then be refunded and replaced. It is not clear whether the item would be replaced within a recall situation. Bring your receipt to expedite the process and refund.

This recall has been categorized by the FDA under Class II, meaning the impacted product can cause temporary health consequences but is not likely to cause a serious health issue.
