Indiana basketball headed on second international trip under Darian DeVries

BLOOMINGTON — For the second consecutive summer, Darian DeVries will take his team outside the continental United States, a source told IndyStar. This time, Indiana basketball will travel representing their country.

Indiana is expected to participate in this summer’s FISU America Games, in Lima, Peru, held July 20 to Aug. 1. The trip puts half a dozen games on the schedule for DeVries’ new-look roster, which will include at least six transfers and three freshmen.

It won’t be a foreign tour in the traditional sense, as IU will represent the United States at the annual event. Baylor traveled to Germany in the same capacity last season, winning a silver medal.

Participation in the tournament does mean the Hoosiers will get additional practice time this summer, important for DeVries as he attempts to stitch together another largely rebuilt roster.

Games are expected to be available via a streaming service. Further details will be forthcoming.
