Why this 'staple' of Indiana is represented in Fever guard's arm tattoo

INDIANAPOLIS — Every tattoo has a story and newly acquired Indiana Fever guard Tyasha Harris shared the backstory behind the ink on her arms ahead of practice Monday morning.

Harris, a three-time state champion with Heritage Christian and 2016 Indiana Miss Basketball finalist, was asked by Fever radio announcer John Nolan about the “Indiana” tattoo on her right arm, which the Fever social media team posted a photo of during Saturday’s preseason game vs. the Nigeria Women’s National Team.

“This is where I’m from. This is home for me,” Harris smiled. “I just wanted to staple that and put that on me.”

Harris also has tattoos of a lion, which represents her grandmother who used to tell her to “let your lioness out,” her angel numbers — 777 (typically signify luck) — and the logo for her Indianapolis-based AAU program, Ty Harris Elite.

Said Harris: “My whole arm is a lot of spiritual stuff and just about me.”

The 5-foot-10 guard made her Fever debut over the weekend, logging two points and an assist in 12 minutes. She missed most of last season due to injury.

The Fever open the 2026 WNBA regular season this Saturday against the Dallas Wings (1 p.m., ABC).
