Secret Service failures raise concerns for Trump's safety | Paul W. Smith

“Outta’ My Mind on a Monday Moanin’”

I have supported law enforcement forever.

That does not mean I support them when they are wrong, it just means I give them a lot of leeway and usually a great deal of the benefit of the doubt. I actually hated writing this column, but I feel I must point out some obvious problems with our Secret Service.

There have been three attempts to kill President Donald Trump, and thank God he is still alive. Some think it was divine intervention that got Trump to turn his head at just the right moment to avoid a direct shot to the head during the first attempt. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the great work of the Secret Service that got him out of Butler, Pennsylvania, alive.

The next two attempts on his life, the Secret Service shot their guns 11 times, and not once did they hit the alleged perpetrator.

And sadly, at the White House Correspondents’ dinner, a heavily armed man easily made it past security. Had he not stumbled, there was a great chance he would have gotten into the main hall and killed many. Imagine if five guys had checked into the hotel and rushed the security area? Some, if not all, would have gotten through and caused tragic consequences.

Where were the armed security people in the stairwells? How could the agents not hear this guy running toward them? How could the first guy not tackle him?

The agents were too relaxed and not on guard.

Eventually, the president’s luck may run out. Let’s fix this before that happens.
