Monroe County Region high school sports roundup for April 30, 2026

TEMPERANCE – It was Teacher Appreciation Night for Bedford’s softball team.

But it was the teachers who would up appreciating the talents of their students as the Mules blitzed Dundee 15-0 on Thursday, April 30.

Mya Smithson and Emma Price each went 2-for-3 and Ellen Majewski smashed a home run and drove in four runs.

Freshman Luna Gallup twirled a 1-hit shutout.

Abby Marek went 1-for-1 for Dundee.

THURSDAY’S TOP PERFORMERS

SOFTBALL

Hayley Southerland, SMCC: Plated three runs with a bases-loaded double as the Kestrels scored all of their runs in the sixth inning of a 4-2 win over Whiteford. Braelyn Runyon, Hannah Williams, Olivia Piepsney and Hayden Southerland also had key hits in the winning rally and Lauren Tolliver came through with a key sacrifice. Runyon was the winning pitcher. Bailey Spalding went 2-for-3 and played well defensively for Whiteford.

Addison Skinner, Gibraltar Carlson: Tossed a shutout to propel the Marauders past Woodhaven 9-0. Carlson coasted after scoring six times in the opening inning. Hayden England, Kiley Lewandowski and Averie Gendron logged two hits each and Kennedy Warren drove in three runs.

BASEBALL

Grady Brooks and Hunter Barton, Jefferson: Split six hits to power a 15-4 rout of Flat Rock. Barton, Bret Gennoe, Caleb Henry, Jett Jones, Jake Brewer all drove in a pair of runs and Jonathan Leffew and Luke Beaudrie each delivered two hits. Evan Szalay went 2-for-for and stole two bases for Flat Rock.

Chase Atkins, Bedford: Enjoyed a 3-for-4 at the plate scoring twice and driving in two runs during a 14-5 win over Ann Arbor Huron. Brody Leonard drove in three runs and he, Jason Bryant, Nick Coberey and Griffin Brush finished with two hits each. Huron scored three times in the seventh inning to win the second game. Jaxson Lestock went 4-for-4 and drove in three runs for the 9-5 Mules.

Bryce Ostrander, Dundee: Went 2-for-3 and drove in two runs during a 6-5 loss to Hudson. Wyatt Hickey also had two hits and pitched well, giving up just one hit and no runs over the first six innings. He struck out 11.

Owen Snyder, Ida: Did not give up any earned runs during a 5-2 complete-game victory over Adrian Madison. “Owen made pitch after pitch in huge situations,” Ida coach Jimmy McMonagle said. “Guys battled all day at the plate against one of the best in our league. Was a big win for us.” Hazen Vogt led the offense for the 14-6 Blue Streaks, going 2-for-4 and driving home three runs. Trent Pfeiffer also had two hits.

GIRLS SOCCER

Camryn Cousino, Jefferson-Erie Mason: Scored four times and picked up an assist during a 9-1 victory over Taylor. Morgan Simota (3 goals, 1 assist), Madalyn Thompson (1 goal, 2 assists), Alaina Rosensteel (1 goal, 1 assist) and Kate Otting (1 assist) also contributed to the offense for the 6-6-1 Bears.

GIRLS TENNIS

Morgan Wort, Gibraltar Carlson: Won at No. 1 singles to trigger an 8-0 sweep of Lincoln Park. Riley Graham, Maddy Mead and Gabby Peer also were singles winners and Skylar Warren-Sarah Pente, Monica Steinmetz-Sophia Gaynier, Maggie Samford-Brooklyn Cowell and Molly Owen-Mena Sladich dominated doubles.

Kelsey Brubaker, Milan: Earned a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles her team’s lone point in a 7-1 loss to Grosse Ile. She is 5-0 in the league.

BOYS LACROSSE

Max Flint, SMCC: Racked up seven goals and an assist in a 16-3 romp over Woodhaven. Brenton Carter added three goals and four assists and Tyler St. Pierre and Bennett Schafter each scored twice.

Eli Koontz, Bedford: Delivered a dominant performance in goal to beat Ann Arbor Skyline 6-1. Jalen Porter, Kyle Burger and Landyn Maly logged two goals apiece and Landon Vigh and Connor Budd also played well.

BOYS GOLF

Ben Scully and Colin Gilleran, Flat Rock: Each shot 41 to lead a 170-205 victory over Riverview. The Rams also took the junior varsity match 205-234 as Davion Moore (48) and Lucas Taraszkiewicz (49) led the way.
