Former Central quarterback Maverick McIvor is looking to earn a spot on an NFL team.
McIvor, who ended his collegiate career at Western Kentucky, accepted invitations to Dallas Cowboys and Chicago Bears rookie minicamps, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network posted to social media Wednesday morning, April 29.
The 25-year-old signal caller started his college career at Texas Tech, playing for three years with the Red Raiders before transferring to Abilene Christian, following former Texas Tech defensive coordinator Keith Patterson after he accepted the head coaching job at ACU.
McIvor enjoyed a breakout 2022 season during his first year in Abilene before rising up the depth chart and starting back-to-back seasons at quarterback for the Wildcats in 2023 and 2024. The gunslinger started 13 games for ACU and led the team to a 9-5 finish during a historic 2024 campaign, which included Abilene Christian’s first conference championship since 2010 and the first FCS Playoffs appearance in program history.
McIvor was named a first team all-conference selection after throwing for 3,828 yards and 30 touchdowns on 312-of-499 passing in 2024, ranking fourth in passing yards and sixth in passing touchdowns among FCS quarterbacks.
McIvor ended his tenure with Abilene Christian with 8,035 passing yards, 64 total touchdowns, a 655-of-1,090 completion rate (60.%) and a 136.6 career QBR in 34 career games played for the Wildcats from 2022 to 2024.
After his stay in Abilene, McIvor was granted a seventh year of eligibility and transferred to Western Kentucky. He also received FBS offers from Miami (OH), North Texas and Wake Forest. Despite missing six games due to a left shoulder injury, he started seven contests, completed 67% of his passed for 2,062 yards with 12 touchdowns and six interceptions.
“ACU has taught me so many lifelong lessons and has molded me into the man I want to become,” he wrote in a Twitter statement when he initially entered the transfer portal on Dec. 12, 2024.
“Thank you to the entire Big Country and everyone involved in the ACU Football program. I want to give a huge shoutout to my teammates, coaches, and family that have made this year and the past two years so memorable.”
