Brewers SS prospect Jesús Made can throw ball 100mph, apparently

The Jesús Made hype train didn’t need another data point, but the Brewers No. 1 prospect provided one April 28, anyway.

Made made a play on an inning-ending groundout in the third inning in Pensacola, rifling a one-hopper to first baseman Mike Boeve and retiring Marlins prospect Dillon Lewis. Lewis, as it happens, is a great runner with 35 career stolen bases in 37 chances during his minor-league career.

Though in-game data such as velocity on throws isn’t publicly available for the game, Shuckers announcer Javik Blake does have access to some of the data and posted that the throw clocked 100 miles per hour (making Boeve’s scoop that much more impressive, by the way).

Baseball America noted that no Triple-A or MLB infielder (at levels where the precise data is available) has had a 100-plus throw tracked on a play within the infield, though Elly De La Cruz of the Reds and Masyn Winn of the Cardinals have both exceeded triple digits on throws during relays from the outfield.

Made, still just 18 years old until May 8, went 0 for 5 in the game, and with only one hit in four games, this perhaps counts as a slump during his rocket ascension through the Brewers minor-league system. He still owns a wildly impressive .842 OPS for the level and his age, with two homers, 15 RBIs and a .380 on-base percentage.

The 7-2 win served as a prospect showcase on multiple levels. Slugger Blake Burke hit his eighth homer of the year (tops in the Southern League), and starting pitcher Bishop Letson turned in an excellent five-inning outing, allowing one run on three hits with one walk and six strikeouts.
