Syracuse University’s Molly Guzik has been one of the nation’s breakout players in women’s lacrosse. Her strong season now takes shape in the form of off-field accolades.
It was announced on Thursday that Guzik, a 2024 Spencerport graduate, is one of 25 finalists for the Tewaaraton Award, which serves as the top individual honor in college lacrosse.
Guzik, a sophomore attack, is one of seven underclassmen included. The list will be whittled down to five finalists on May 7, and the winner will be revealed on May 28.
After a strong freshman season that included 14 goals in 19 games, Guzik has upped her performance this year. Her 37 goals are a team-high for Syracuse, which enters the ACC Tournament as the No. 4 team in the country according to Inside Lacrosse.
Guzik has scored at least one goal in 15 of Syracuse’s 16 games. That includes a career-best six goals against Northwestern, currently the No. 2-ranked team, on March 12. Guzik also leads Syracuse in points (47), shots (64) and draw controls (64).
The Tewaaraton Foundation released its preseason watchlist on Feb. 10 sans Guzik. She was added during the midseason update, following a strong start to the season.
Guzik was credited with 221 goals during her five-year varsity career, including 74 in her senior season. She was a two-time All-American and two-time All-Greater Rochester selection.
Syracuse opens the ACC Tournament on Wednesday, April 22 against the University of Virginia.
