One man was killed and another was injured on Sunday after a crash with a construction vehicle on the Lodge Freeway in Detroit, officials said.
Michigan State Police said the deceased, a 23-year-old man, was driving the vehicle that crashed into the construction vehicle. His passenger, a 30-year-old Southfield man, is listed in critical condition at a hospital, they said.

Troopers were called at about 7:45 a.m. Sunday to a location on the southbound lanes of the Lodge Freeway near Wyoming Avenue for a report of a crash in a road construction zone, authorities said.
According to a preliminary investigation, a construction zone had been set up in the left and middle lanes of the freeway. A construction vehicle was blocking the left lane, police said. Construction workers were outside the vehicle and setting up traffic cones, they said.
The workers told troopers that they saw a car speeding in the left lane of the freeway, investigators said. Workers also said the car’s driver did not move out of the lane and struck the rear end of their unoccupied construction vehicle, police said.
“This is a sad reminder of the dangers of excessive speed on our roadways,” First Lt. Mike Shaw, a Michigan State Police spokesman, said on X. “As National Work Zone Awareness Week kicks off tomorrow, we want to remind all drivers to slow down, move over, and use the zipper merge to safely enter the zone. We know these safe actions will save the lives of not only our construction workers but our motorists as well.”
