Lakers are reportedly waiving Kobe Bufkin

With Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves out of action for at least the next few weeks, the Los Angeles Lakers are in need of some functional depth as the NBA playoffs approach. A few of their rotation players, such as Luke Kennard and Rui Hachimura, have stepped up offensively lately, but they could use another contributor at the guard position.

Per Shams Charania of ESPN, the Lakers are waiving Kobe Bufkin, a guard they called up from the G League earlier this season. This decision will give them an open roster spot they could use to sign a player for the postseason.

Bufkin, who is 6-foot-4, was the No. 15 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft by the Atlanta Hawks after spending two seasons at the University of Michigan. He appeared in 16 games for Los Angeles and averaged 2.9 points in 7.4 minutes a game while shooting 30% from the field and 19.2% from 3-point range.
