North Polk girls track and field athlete Reese Wagner and Norwalk boys soccer player Eli Scavo were voted the Des Moines Register’s female and male Athlete of the Week winners from the Des Moines metro area for April 5-11.
Wagner won female Athlete of the Week with 77% of the vote.
Wagner recorded the state’s top jump in the girls high jump so far during the North Polk Invitational on March 31 in Alleman.
Wagner, the defending 3A state champion in the event, cleared the bar at five feet, eight inches. She outdistanced the rest of the field by eight inches.
Scavo dominated male Athlete of the Week voting. He received 92% of the vote.
Scavo pulled off a hat-trick for the Norwalk boys soccer team during a 6-0 victory over Newton to open the season on March 31 at Newton.
Scavo took four shots on goal, and he put three of them in the net for the Warriors.
