Just about a year after opening in St. Clair Shores, Comet Burger has closed its second location in the Macomb County suburb.
A post on Facebook described “mixed emotions” as the business announced the Harper Avenue drive-thru (a former Checkers fast food location) was closed. It opened in February 2025 after transforming the building into a retro-styled, burger shack with chrome. The menu had cheeseburgers, breakfast, coney dogs, milkshakes and more.
“To every customer who pulled through our line, enjoyed a freshly-made burger, or grabbed a milkshake, we can’t thank you enough. Your loyalty and smiles meant the world to our small, family-owned team,” reads the statement.
The original Comet Burgers restaurant with dine-in service remains open daily for lunch and dinner in downtown Royal Oak at 207 S. Main.
