Michigan gets commitment from five-star point guard Brandon McCoy Jr.

At halftime of its Final Four game Saturday night, Michigan men’s basketball received a major recruiting commitment.

Five-star point guard Brandon McCoy Jr. from Sierra Canyon High School in California announced his commitment to Michigan during halftime of the “Fab Five” altcast broadcast.

McCoy (6-foot-5, 190 pounds) is rated the No. 14 overall prospect in the nation and No. 3 at his position, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

“I’m blessed and grateful to announce I’ll be attending the University of Michigan,” McCoy said on the “Fab Five” broadcast, unzipping his jacket and revealing a blue Michigan Jumpman T-shirt.

He then put on a pair of Buffs sunglasses.

“Go Blue!” Jalen Rose said. “When you join this family, that’s forever.”

“You’re coming to a state, Michigan, where we have some of the best people ever,” Chris Webber said. “Be yourself … we’re going to support and love you.”

“Nephew, we’re one call away,” said Rose, “good days, bad days.”

McCoy, who played in this week’s McDonald’s All-American Game, is a member the Class of 2026, and had offers from many major basketball powerhouses, including Michigan and Arizona, the teams playing Saturday night in the Final Four. Michigan won, 91-73, to advance to Monday’s national championship game against UConn.

McCoy’s own final four, meanwhile, was Michigan, Miami, Alabama and Arkansas.

He’s the sixth member of Michigan’s 2026 recruiting class, joining McDonald’s All-American forward Quinn Costello, four-star guard Joseph Hartman and four-star forward Lincoln Cosby. Wing Malachi Brown and center Marcus Moller round out the class, which moved up to No. 2 in the nation after McCoy’s addition, per the 247Sports composite.

Brown, Costello, Hartman and Moller all signed during the early signing period in November. Cosby, who committed on Feb. 10, and McCoy can make their commitments official when the regular signing period starts on April 15.
