Cowboys Headlines: Lots to love at Texas Tech pro day; Myles Garrett trade back in play?

Defense continues to be the watchword in Dallas as Cowboys coaches and scouts have fanned out to pro days across the country this week, looking to identify who they might target with their draft picks next month. Lubbock provided an up-close look at several top contenders, including linebacker Jacob Rodriguez, who has perfected the art of punching the ball out of ballcarriers’ hands, and edge rusher Romello Height, who the team has scheduled another in-person visit with back in Frisco. But don’t forget about Miami’s Reuben Bain; if things go just right for the Cowboys, he could be the sneaky surprise pick at No. 12.

Staying with defensive ends, is Myles Garrett back on the trade block? An interesting clause in his new contract with the Browns has some believing the reigning Defensive Player of the Year could still be dealt for… and that the Cowboys are in a unique position to go get him. And Rashan Gary is making himself right at home in the Dallas locker room… and now he’s wearing the jersey of a recently-departed All-Pro to boot.

In the latest batch of mock drafts, the Cowboys are predicted to go with names that observers have grown used to seeing by now: Mansoor Delane and CJ Allen in an NFL.com exercise, and Jermod McCoy and Akheem Mesidor in an AI-powered USA Today experiment. But CBS’s Josh Edwards gets a little funky with his mock. He has Dallas trading up to get Texas Tech’s David Bailey at No. 6 but giving up a lot to get him… and then using their 20th overall pick on a wide receiver.

Elsewhere in the NFL, Micah Parsons looks to be sitting for the first month of the season with the latest update on his ACL recovery, and Tom Brady reveals that he looked into making yet another unretirement bid back to the field… but it ultimately won’t happen, thanks to his status as a minority owner of the Raiders. And what happens when a bunch of no-names take on the NFL’s best in flag football? Well, if the stars don’t bother to learn the rules or nuances of the sport, they get embarrassed. Now that that’s exactly what has happened, what does it mean for Team USA and any potential involvement from NFL players as the world looks ahead to securing gold at the Olympics?
