After another impressive regular season, Michigan State hockey returns to the NCAA Tournament on Thursday afternoon, looking to snap an extended Frozen Four drought.
The Spartans are in the NCAA Tournament as a top seed for a third straight season, but they seek more success on the ice than in the previous two postseasons. Michigan State will open this year’s NCAA Tournament with a Worcester Region first-round contest against UConn on Thursday afternoon.

Michigan State was ranked in the top five nationally all season. It earned a third straight Big Ten regular season championship and went 25-8-2. That regular-season success, though, is behind the Spartans. Ahead is the first Frozen Four, which they have not reached since 2007.
UConn seeks to right the ship in the NCAA Tournament after a 1-4-1 finish to the regular season. The Huskies played their way back into the NCAA Tournament field with a deep run in the Hockey East Tournament. They are 20-12-5. This is the Huskies’ second straight NCAA Tournament appearance and second in program history.
The Michigan State-UConn winner advances to Saturday’s regional final against the Dartmouth-Wisconsin winner. Those two will play after the Michigan State-UConn game finishes.
