The 2026 Kia K4 hatchback is the odds-on favorite to be the best-looking car that goes on sale this year, and an exceptional value at a time when the price of everything from vehicles to gas to groceries appears to be out of control.
With prices starting at $24,990, appealing features and loads of room, the K4 hatchback belongs on any shopping list of affordable compact cars.
The K4 hatchback is a lot of car for the money, with a roomy, well-equipped interior, sleek body and fancy machined black wheels.
It competes with compact cars like the Honda Civic, Hyundai Elantra, Mazda 3, Nissan Sentra, Subaru Impreza, Toyota Corolla and VW Jetta.
I tested a well-equipped K4 EX, the base model. It stickered at $25,080.
I liked nearly everything about it.

Kia K4 power and speed
K4 hatchback prices start at $24,990 for the EX, a great looking trim level that comes with plenty of popular features.
The EX and GT-Line have a 2.0L normally aspirated engine that produces a modest 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque.
The GT-Line has an independent rear suspension that probably offers a smoother ride, but I had no major issues with ride comfort in the EX, which has a simpler torsion beam rear axle.
The top trim level, GT-Line Turbo, has a turbocharged 1.6L engine that produces 190 hp and 195 pound-feet of torque. It also gets an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The result: 0-60 mph acceleration in 8.1 seconds with the turbo, 9.8 with the 2.0L normally aspirated engine.

2026 Kia K4 hatchback key features
What it’s like to drive a Kia K4 hatchback
Low, sleek and wide, the K4 hatchback looks like a rocket, but it’s not — at least with the 147 hp normally aspirated engine in the car I tested. That base engine has plenty of power for highway cruising and driving around town.
The 190-hp GT-Line Turbo trim level should raise the ante on that, particularly since it comes with a conventional eight-speed automatic transmission. That drivetrain costs $4,000 more than the base model, $3,000 more than the similarly equipped GT-Line.
The steering is firm and predictable, brakes easy to modulate. Wind and road noise are fine.
The interior is roomy and comfortable, with a wide bin and center console for cups and charging. The hatchback provides a wide opening and plenty of cargo space.
The hatchback and cargo space are wide and accommodating.
What could be better?
The EX’s ride was bumpy over expansion joints, but otherwise fine.
The K4 EX hatch’s EPA fuel economy rating of 30 mpg in combined city/highway driving trails leading competitors.
Apple CarPlay started with the engine, but music playback did not. I had to go to the music screen and press the start arrow to resume listening after every start.

Why buy a 2026 Kia K4 hatchback?
With tariffs and other inflationary factors pushing the average new vehicle price to around $50,000, the K4 hatchback isn’t just a deal, it’s a scorching hot deal. It looks great, carries people and cargo with aplomb and has a generous suite of features for safety, comfort and convenience.
