BOYNTON BEACH — Two people died in a helicopter crash Monday, March 23, at a multimillion-dollar warehouse, city officials confirmed.
The crash happened just before 12:30 p.m., Fire Rescue Battallion Chief Matt Oxendine said, at a vacant warehouse near the Monterey townhouse community off Congress Avenue at the southern end of the city, about two 2 miles south of Woolbright Road.
The helicopter crashed through the warehouse’s roof, Oxendine said. No smoke or fire came from the crash. “Usually, you would see it from far away,” he said.
City officials have not released either the names of the people who died.
The helicopter was a Robinson R44, the Federal Aviation Administration reported. The model has four seats a two-blade rotor and is in wide use by flight schools, private companies and aviation clubs.
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the crash, the FAA said.
The warehouse was built in 2025, with a market value estimated at about $24.2 million, Palm Beach County property records show. The complex is owned by Orlando-based WSL South Congress Owner LLC. Attempts to reach it for comment were not immediately successful.
