A Detroit teen accused of shooting and wounding a hospital security guard earlier this month has been charged, officials said.
Trejion Sanders, 17, was arraigned Friday in Grosse Pointe Woods Municipal Court, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office. It also said he is being charged as an adult.
The defendant is charged with assault with intent to murder, assault with intent to do great bodily harm, carrying a concealed weapon, felonious assault, and three counts of using a firearm during the commission of a felony, the prosecutor’s office said.
A judge set Sanders’ bond at $250,000 and scheduled his next court hearing for Wednesday.
If convicted, he faces up to life in prison for the assault with intent to murder charge. He also faces up to 10 years for assault with intent to do great bodily harm, up to five years for carrying a concealed weapon, up to four years for felonious assault, and up to two years for each count of felony firearm.
Sanders’ attorney, Marc Shreeman, was not immediately available for comment on Tuesday.
Authorities allege the defendant shot and wounded a security guard at Henry Ford St. John Hospital on March 6.
The shooting happened at about 11:50 a.m. in the hospital’s parking lot in the 19200 block of Mack Avenue in Grosse Pointe Woods, police said.
Sanders was allegedly trying to break into vehicles, officials said. Hospital security officers approached him, and Sanders reached for his handgun, they said.
One of the security guards deployed his department-issued electric stun gun, but it did not have an effect, investigators said.
Sanders allegedly then pointed his gun at a security officer and fired. The victim, a 31-year-old Eastpointe man, was wounded.
An officer returned fire with his department-issued weapon and struck the defendant in the leg, police said. Prosecutors said the defendant was treated at a hospital, released, and taken to the Juvenile Detention Center.
