Texas A&M baseball evened the series in another impressive performance at the plate on Saturday, as the Aggies secured a 9-5 win over the Oklahoma Sooners in Norman.
Game 2 started with Oklahoma third baseman Brendan Brock mashing a two-run homer for an early 2-0 lead over Texas A&M. Weston Moss bounced back nicely after giving up the home run in the first, tacking on six strikeouts in 6.0 innings pitched.
After returning to the lineup from injury in Game 1, second baseman Chris Hacopian returned the favor with a two-run blast of his own in the top of the third to tie the game. Boston Kellner’s lead-off homer in the top of the fifth took the lead from the Sooners, while Wesley Jordan, who was also returning from an injury hiatus this weekend, got in on the home run party with a three-run shot to put the Aggies up 6-2 entering the sixth inning.
Oklahoma stayed alive with three runs scored in the sixth and seventh, but Texas A&M closed it out to tie the series and force a rubber match on Sunday afternoon.
With just two losses on the season, to No. 1 UCLA and No. 11 Oklahoma in Game 1, the Aggies are playing good baseball to start the season. While some unknowns remain, especially in the bullpen, Texas A&M’s performances at the plate have been stellar. If Michael Earley can keep his club hitting well, the Maroon and White can compete against the best teams college baseball has to offer.
