The Dallas Cowboys finally made the trade that was anticipated since the start of legal tampering, dealing defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa to the San Francisco 49ers for a third-round pick in the 2026 NFL draft.
Apparently, paying three DTs at least $20 million a season was too much for the Cowboys to swallow, and they moved on from their final draft pick left from the 2021 class. There were also questions about Odighizuwa’s fit in new defensive coordinator Christian Parker’s scheme, which may have helped facilitate the trade.
The trade nets the team a Day 2 selection, something they were void of prior to the deal, but the defense is also out a top performer from the previous few seasons.
Getting a quality draft pick back will help Dallas rebuild the defense, but it comes at the expense of a good player, leaving plenty of fans puzzled by the trade.
There were also those wondering how this deal makes the Cowboys’ defense any better?
There were also some angry tweets about the trade, especially coupled with the news that quickly came after with the Cowboys also trading away DT Solomon Thomas to the Tennessee Titans.
However, not everyone hated the trade.
We’ll see what happens with the Cowboys, whether they use that third-round pick in another trade, or if they use it in the draft, but one thing’s for sure, there’s never a shortage of opinion on any move from America’s Team.
