Around 7 inches of heavy snow and strong winds are expected in several counties in Central New York this weekend, according to the National Weather Service in Buffalo.
The bulk of the snow is expected just south and east of Lake Ontario, forecasters said. A winter storm watch was issued for Friday morning through Saturday afternoon.
While flurries are expected to fly throughout parts of western New York on Friday, little accumulation is expected in some spots while up to 7 inches of snow is predicted to fall in others.
The change may feel especially startling since New York experienced spring-like weather since last weekend – with highs reaching well into the 70s throughout upstate New York, according to Weather Service data.
Highs throughout western and central New York are expected to return to the 30s and 40s through at least Saturday, followed by a brief warmup Sunday and another drop into the 20s next week, forecasters said. Highs will vary by location.
