Students, organizers to host grand opening of Torch 180 Corner Shoppes

Torch 180 is officially celebrating the grand opening of a retail training center in downtown Fowlerville, according to a community announcement.

The nonprofit will host a ribbon cutting ceremony and celebration 5-7 p.m. March 12 at the Torch 180 Corner Shoppes, 102 E. Grand River Ave.

“This grand opening is so exciting for us,” wrote Torch 180 President Rhonda Callahan. “We’ll be able to offer employability training for yet another high-interest industry (with) many employment opportunities for our students.”

Torch 180 has long trained students with disabilities in food service inside a public café at 131 Mill St. The organization acquired the long-unoccupied building at 102 E. Grand River Ave. with help from Lake Trust Credit Union and Chem-Trend.

Despite the opening, a capital campaign remains underway to raise funds for upgrades, program supplies and equipment in the new retail space.

The event March 12 will include tours, light refreshments and an opportunity to meet students and program leaders.
