2026 NFL draft: 3 DTs for Chargers fans to watch at Combine

On-field testing at the NFL Combine begins on Thursday. Chargers general manager Joe Hortiz recently spoke to the media on Tuesday before the drills begin.

Here are a few defensive tackles that Hortiz and Jim Harbaugh could be watching during their time at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Peter Woods, Clemson

Getting defensive coordinator Chris O’Leary a blue-chip defensive tackle in the first round should be something the Chargers are strongly considering. Woods is an explosive interior defender with natural athleticism, possessing a violent first step and rare lateral quickness to shoot gaps. His 2024 season was better than his 2025 season, but he’s put together legitimate tape that showcases his flashes of being a difference-maker at the next level. Look for him to test well across the board.

Tyler Onyedim, Texas A&M

Onyedim is an athletic interior defender with an explosive first step, impressive lateral quickness, and plus length, enabling quick gap penetration to get into opposing backfields and defend the run. He also shows an effective use of club, swim and spin moves. In his lone season at Texas A&M, Onyedim recorded a career high in tackles for loss (9.5) and sacks (3.5).

Rayshaun Benny, Michigan

Jim Harbaugh could resort to his old stomping grounds to add an interior defender. Benny is a good athlete with good movement skills, quick hands, a consistent pad level, and impressive lateral agility to mirror ball carriers. After being buried on the depth chart behind first-round picks Mason Graham and Kenneth Grant, he recorded 35 tackles, three tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks in 2025 as a full-time starter.
