The Detroit Institute of Arts Museum was voted as the second-best museum in the nation by a panel of experts and readers taking part in the USA TODAY 10BEST Reader’s Choice Awards.
“Visitors can enjoy human creativity from across the globe as they explore more than 140 galleries, including the Center for African American Art, one of the first collections devoted to African American art at a major museum,” USATODAY’s 10BEST nomination suggested.
The DIA also finished second a year ago and was the No. 1 museum in both 2024 and 2023. In previous years it ranked fifth in 2022 and sixth in 2021.
Founded in 1885, the DIA, 5200 Woodward Ave., acts as a gathering space to connect all walks of life via art and history.
The 658,000-square-foot space has displays in more than 140 galleries, an auditorium, lecture hall, library and art-conservation department, according to its website.
The 10BEST Reader’s Choice Awards compiled several categories for readers to vote on with a focus on art, such as museums, street art, sculpture parks and more.
The Toledo Museum of Art in Toledo, Ohio, placed first overall in the annual rankings for the second year, and the Cincinnati Art Museum was third.
