Pace wrestling completes district sweep; Gulf Breeze earns 5 individual titles

Pace boys wrestling made it a district sweep on Feb. 17 at Choctawhatchee High School. A month after winning the District 1-2A dual championship, the Patriots repeated as individual District 1-2A champions.

Pace is in the midst of its best boys wrestling season in school history. Not only have they swept the District 1-2A dual and individual titles, but the Patriots also won their first regional dual title in program history in January.

However, Pace didn’t walk away with the most individual district champions. Gulf Breeze led the way with five: Michael Hovis (113), Garrett Ferguson (120), Ryder Cohen (126), Keegan Deeds (138) and Leyton Collazo (157). All but Hovis repeated as district champions. The Dolphins finished fourth overall in the team standings with 141 points.

Twenty-two area wrestlers finished in the top four of their respective weight classes to qualify for the Region 1-2A championship, which will take place Feb. 27-28 at Chiles High School in Tallahassee.
