Shots, blocks & boards: Vote for IndyStar girls basketball players of the week (Regionals)

IndyStar will be recognizing the top girls basketball players in Indiana with our players of the week poll.

Congratulations to Brebeuf’s Robyn Pate on being voted Player of the Week for Sectionals! Pate scored 23 points with three triples in an opening-round overtime win vs. rival Guerin, then went for 22 points while also guarding Danville leading scorer Jillian Conrad in the championship game (held her scoreless on 0-of-5 shooting). Pate, who scored 12 points against Crawfordsville in the semifinals, notched eight rebounds, an assist and three steals for the week.

Here are last week’s top performers.

Precious Anuka, Cathedral

The senior guard scored a team-high 15 points, 12 of which came in the first half. She was a critical contributor throughout the season for the Irish, averaging team-highs in points (14) and steals (4) and ranking second at three assists per game. 

Lila Busenbark, Parke Heritage

Busenbark led the Wolves to their first regional championship in program history, netting 14 points on 5-of-11 shooting in a 54-44 win over Monrovia. The sophomore also logged six rebounds, five assists and four steals.

Keke Butler, Lawrence Central

The senior scored a game-high 22 points, two assists and five rebounds in a win over No. 1 Pike. Butler, who won a state championship last season with Lawrence North, converted 10-of-11 free throw attempts.

Mollie Ernstes, Jennings County

The senior Kansas commit erupted for 29 points on 11-of-19 shooting, 12 rebounds, two assists and six steals in a 62-51 win over Silver Creek. The Panthers limited the Dragons to 28% shooting in the first half and 36% for the game.

Gracyn Gilliard, Center Grove

The senior was up to her old tricks against Pendleton Heights, putting up 27 points and four rebounds. She embarked on a solo 10-0 run in the second half, helping CG rally from a double-digit deficit.

Lillie Graves, McCutcheon

The junior helped the Mavericks put away Hamilton Southeastern in the fourth quarter, converting six-of-seven free throws and knocking in a pair of 2s en route to a 14-point performance.

Bailey Hape, Reitz

Hape continued her monster play in February, scoring a game-high19 points, 14 of which came in the fourth quarter to spark a come-from-behind win over Columbus North. The regional championship is Reitz’s first since 1981.

Riley Johnson, Heritage Christian

Johnson scored 24 points in a blowout win over Union County. She did her damage with four triples and a perfect 5-for-5 finish from inside the arc. Johnson also logged six rebounds, three steals and three assists with only two turnovers.

Madison Jones, Fairfield 

Jones scored 20 points to help the Falcons down Kankakee Valley, 49-47. 

Lola Lampley, Lawrence Central

The senior LSU commit was explosive on both ends of the floor Saturday, scoring 18 points, pulling in seven rebounds, picking up five steals, blocking three shots and dishing out a couple assists.

Elliot Leffler, Roncalli

Leffler scored a game-high 22 points in Roncalli’s thrilling win over Cathedral, 14 of which came in the fourth quarter for the Royals. 

Keara Lipscomb-Allen

The senior netted 20 points, including 10 points in the opening eight minutes, to help the Mavericks score a decisive win over Hamilton Southeastern.

Riley Rarick, Borden

The senior netted 25 points in a regional championship win over Orleans.

Kate Reed, Greenwood Christian Academy

The 5-2 junior went off for a career-high 30 points on 7-of-16 shooting, leading the Cougars back from a double-digit halftime deficit against Tri. She also dished out a couple assists and registered three steals. 

Katie Reed, Washington

Reed scored 12 points, including a couple clutch 3s in the fourth quarter, 10 rebounds and three blocks in a thrilling overtime win over Evansville Central.

Ava Richie, Crown Point

The Crown Point standout tallied 14 points, six rebounds, two assists and four steals in a win over Penn.

Vanessa Rosswurm, Norwell

The senior IWU commit went berzerk — again — this time against Fort Wayne Snider, scoring 36 points on 13-of-20 shooting with five triples. The Knights rolled to a 90-56 win.

Macie Saalfrank, Norwell

Saalfrank was excellent against Snider, too, totaling 25 points on 10-of-13 shooting with five 3s, four dimes and six steals in 28 minutes of play. 

Grace Scharlach, Fremont

Scharlach contributed 20 points to Fremont’s upset of top-ranked Marquette Catholic. The regional championship is the Eagles’ first since 1999.

Carlee Schrader, Northview

Schrader scored 20 points, leading Northview to its first-ever regional championship with a 50-38 win over Brebeuf Jesuit.

Maddy Shirley, Evansville Central

The Southern Indiana signee completed her decorated, record-setting high school career with 16 points, 18 rebounds and six blocks (unofficially) in an overtime loss to Washington. Shirley finishes with over 2,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds.

Elyse Snively, Heritage Christian

Snively overcame illness to deliver 18 points for the Eagles, converting a pair of 3s and closing out her line with four rebounds, a steal, five assists and three blocks. As a team, Heritage Christian had 18 assists with only seven turnovers and shot 8-of-18 from 3 (19-for-29 from 2).

Mya Turner, Fremont

Turner posted 26 points, six rebounds and also notched three blocks in a Saturday evening upset of Marquette Catholic. Her contributions to the scoring column pushed her beyond 1,000 career points. 

Laniah Wills, Lapel

The senior Butler commit scored 22 points, pulled in 19 rebounds and led Lapel to its third regional championship in four seasons with a win over Rensselaer Central in her final home game.
