Woman killed in camper fire at Fond du Lac County campground

TOWN OF BYRON – A fatal camper fire claimed the life of a 35-year-old woman at Breezy Hill Campground in the town of Byron Sunday morning, Feb. 15.

Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that multiple 911 calls were received around 10:56 a.m. reporting a camper engulfed in flames at the campground on Cearns Lane. An adult man and three children were able to escape the camper safely, but a woman was reported trapped inside.

Deputies with the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office, along with fire crews from Eden and the City of Fond du Lac, responded to the scene.

While firefighters worked to put out the blaze, the woman was found inside the camper and pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said the fire appeared to have started in the kitchen area and was quickly brought under control.

The cause of the fire and the manner of death have not yet been determined, the sheriff’s office said.

The man and three children were treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The American Red Cross also assisted at the scene.
