FSU baseball run-rules JMU to clinch series

The No. 14 FSU baseball team crushed the JMU Dukes 16-5 on Saturday at Dick Howser Stadium in Tallahassee, Florida, clinching the series win. The Seminoles improved to 2-0 with the win and will go for the sweep on Sunday.

FSU’s offense started hot and never cooled off, scoring multiple runs in five of its six innings to secure the run-rule victory. They finished with 17 hits, including two home runs and three doubles. Cal Fisher led the way with four hits, driving in five runs. Brayden Dowd hit a double and a home run by the second inning, setting the table for the rest of the offense.

Bryson Moore got the start for the Seminoles but lasted just 1 2/3 innings before he was replaced by Cade O’Leary. It was not the debut Moore envisioned, as he allowed three runs on four hits, two walks, and a hit batter. O’Leary recorded seven outs and allowed two runs, striking out four batters to earn his first win as a Seminole.

Cooper Whited and Cole Stokes held JMU scoreless over the final three innings, combining to strike out five batters with a walk each. FSU’s pitchers issued six walks, but struckout 12 batters to work around the base runners.

JMU took a 3-2 lead in the top of the second inning before FSU’s offense responded with four runs to retake the lead. Dowd hit a three-run homer before Fisher scored on a wild pitch, putting FSU up 6-3. Myles Bailey and Fisher both hit RBI singles in the fourth to give the Seminoles some breathing room.

They busted the game open in the fifth inning with four more runs, thanks to a homer by Brody DeLamielleure, an RBI double by Noah Sheffield, and a two-RBI single by Fisher.

FSU and JMU will return to action on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET for the final game of the series. The game will be streamed on the ACC Network Extra.
