One week after posting 103 points in a game against Milan, Airport opened with 43 points in the opening quarter of a 73-21 win over Jefferson on Monday, Feb. 9.

No official Region records are available for points in a quarter.

Sophia Mator scored 16 points in the first period, Olivia Gratz logged 9, Jillian Baker 8 and Mya Stahr 7.

“Proud of the girls for controlling the game from the start and playing team basketball,” said Airport interim coach Luke Baker. “We were able to rebound, run the floor and make the extra pass tonight.

“The defensive pressure was great on the perimeter and we were able to force multiple turnovers.”

Gratz and Mator finished with 16 points apiece and Baker notched 10 as Airport extended its winning streak to seven games and improve to 15-2.

Jenna Flint paced 5-12 Jefferson with 7 points.

GIRLS

Flat Rock 50, Grosse Ile 46

FLAT ROCK – Grosse Ile held down Flat Rock’s leading scorer Madleen Hussein, but she found other ways to contribute and her teammates picked up the scoring.

Lily Klein had a big night with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Layla Holbrook (11) and Brinley Carney (10) also scored in double figures and Eva Mouro added 8 for the 11-5 Rams.

Hussein snared 11 rebounds.

“Grosse Ile also did a good job defensively on Madleen, but we were fortunate to have other players step up,” Flat Rock coach Brian Kryk said. “Eva Mouro came up big, knocking down some timely shots. We also made an adjustment by getting Madleen more touches inside, which opened things up offensively and led to easy baskets for Lily and Brinley.”

Dundee 44, Sand Creek 33

DUNDEE – Shorthanded Dundee found a way to push its record to 11-5.

“We were down three of our players, but we managed to get the job done with six girls,” Dundee coach Jay Briggs said. “Abby Marek had her best game of her varsity career defensively and facilitating the offense.”

Aisley Cousino led the Vikings with 14 points and Maddie Salenbien scored 13.

SMCC 57, Milan 23
