Here’s what to know about the Super Bowl national anthem singer.

Who will perform the national anthem at the Super Bowl?

Charlie Puth will sing the U.S. national anthem at the Super Bowl LX in Santa Clara, California. Kickoff is slated for 6:30 p.m. ET Sunday, Feb. 8.

The event will mark the 34-year-old Grammy Award nominee’s first appearance in the Super Bowl as a performer in any capacity.

Who is Charlie Puth?

Born Charles Otto Puth Jr in Rumson, New Jersey, he is an award-winning singer-songwriter, according to IMDb.

Puth rose to prominence in the early 2010s after song covers he posted to YouTube went viral. He appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2011 and performed a cover of Adele’s “Someone Like You” with Emily Luther.

In the years following his appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Puth worked for DeGeneres’ eleveneleven label, released a couple of promotional singles, and collaborated on other music, including jingles and theme songs for YouTube personalities. Eventually, he released his debut single — “Marvin Gaye,” which featured Meghan Trainor — in 2015.

Puth has since released three albums – including Voicenotes, which was nominated for Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical at the 61st Grammy Awards – and has a fourth coming out on March 27. He also collaborated with Wiz Khalifa on “See You Again,” which earned a Grammy Award nomination for Song of the Year and spent 12 weeks at No. 1 overall on the Billboard Hot 100.

Who is Brandi Carlile?

Born Brandi Marie Carlile in Ravensdale, Washington, she is an award-winning singer-songwriter, guitarist, author and actress, according to IMDb.

Carlile has released seven studio albums and worked as a producer on Grammy Award-winning projects, according to the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

She co-founded the Looking Out Foundation, a nonprofit grant-making and activist organization and has advocated for social justice causes, including LGBTQ issues.

Who is Coco Jones?

Born Courtney Michaela Ann Jones in Columbia, South Carolina, she is an award-winning singer and actress, IMDb said.

Her career began as a child actress on Disney Channel productions, including the 2012 film “Let It Shine,” according to Revolt. Jones is a two-time Grammy nominated recording artist and recently starred in the sitcom television series “Bel-Air.”

What is ‘Lift Every Voice and Sing’?

Jones will perform “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” a hymn originally written as a poem by NAACP leader James Weldon Johnson in the late 1800s. The anthem, set to music by his brother John Rosamond Johnson in 1905, was adopted by the NAACP as its official song in 1919. The NFL began incorporating this Black national anthem into its pre-game ceremonies in 2020, a significant step following the protests against police brutality and the death of George Floyd.

What is Green Day performing?

Rock band Green Day will perform in a special ceremony during the Super Bowl on Feb. 8. The band from Berkeley, California – just across the San Francisco Bay from Levi’s Stadium – will perform during a ceremony celebrating the Super Bowl’s 60th anniversary with and Super Bowl MVPs from the last six decades.
