El Paso football stars Ernie Powers, Robert Deal Jr. sign with Division 1 programs

Franklin High School football star Ernie Powers and former Pebble High School football player Robert Deal, Jr., will continue their careers on the Division 1 level.

The 2023 graduate of Pebble Hills played for Coffeyville Community College in Kansas during the 2025 season and registered 62 tackles, three sacks, two interceptions and four tackles for loss.

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound Deal will play safety for the Cowboys.

Ernie Powers will play for Navy

Powers finished his high school career in the fall with his best season, rushing for 3,742 yards and 57 rushing touchdowns.

He was named the El Paso Times’ MVP and helped the Cougars to an 8-3 record.
