Corning-Painted Post sophomore scores 50 in win over Canisteo-Greenwood

Corning-Painted Post sophomore Nolyn Proudfoot continued to rewrite scoring record books with a 50-point performance Monday, Feb. 2, in a 97-78 home victory over Canisteo-Greenwood in boys basketball.

Proudfoot’s total broke his own program record of 42 points set last week in a 98-72 triumph over Ithaca that clinched the Southern Tier Athletic Conference West Division title.

The sophomore guard went 19-for-26 from the field, 5-for-8 from 3-point range, and 7-for-9 at the foul line in Monday’s victory over the state-ranked Chargers.

Proudfoot added 11 rebounds on a night in which Kyler Stevenson scored 18 points for the Hawks, and Kohl Hogue notched 17 points and 11 assists.

Monday’s effort put Proudfoot over 1,500 career points. Last season he became the first freshman boy in Section 4 history to reach 1,000 points.

Corning, ranked 27th in Class AAA by the New York State Sports Writers Association, improved to 15-0.

Canisteo-Greenwood, the fourth-ranked Class B team in New York state, dropped to 12-3. The Chargers still sit in the No. 3 spot in the Section V, Class B2 playoff bracket and return home to host Wellsville Feb. 4.
