Detroit Grand Prix tickets go on sale for 2026 downtown race

The city’s biggest car race won’t arrive until May, but you can secure your tickets right now.

Tickets for the 36th Detroit Grand Prix went on sale Tuesday, Jan. 20, and are now available on the race’s official website. Race weekend will take place in downtown Detroit from Friday, May 29, through the final race on Sunday, May 31.

The Detroit Grand Prix will take its usual place on the NTT IndyCar Series calendar the week after the Indianapolis 500, the biggest race of the season. It will be the eighth race of the 17-race season, effectively marking the halfway point of the schedule.

Andretti Global driver Kyle Kirkwood won the 2025 race, his first-ever win in Detroit. Álex Palou of Chip Ganassi racing won his third straight championship in 2024, looking to become just the second driver ever to win four consecutive U.S. open-wheel championships (Sébastien Bourdais in ChampCar from 2004-07).

The season begins Sunday, March 1, with the Grand Prix of St. Petersburgh in St. Petersburg, Florida.

The cheapest Sunday grandstand tickets for the Detroit race start at $70, with two-day passes starting at $110 and three-day passes starting at $180. Grandstands 1 and 9 will feature free admission on Friday, with tickets for sanctioned rooftop viewing available on the top of the Center, Port Atwater, Franklin and River East parking garages.

Michael Montri, president of the Grand Prix, says he’s looking forward to bringing an “unforgettable weekend” to the city.

“Grand Prix weekend is a celebration of our city, our fans and the incredible spirit that makes Detroit special,” Montri said in a statement.

The race weekend will also feature activities along Woodward Avenue, at Campus Martius, Hart Plaza and Cadillac Square. Tickets can be purchased online at DetroitGP.com/tickets or by phone at (888) 811-7749.
