Are the Marquette Golden Eagles finally hitting a favorable portion of their schedule?
Five of Marquette’s first seven Big East games have been against teams in the top half of the conference. Those five teams – Connecticut, St. John’s, Villanova, Seton Hall and Creighton – have an average NET ranking of 30.2.
But the other six teams in the league are struggling. Xavier is the only team in that group that has more than two conference wins. Four teams, including the Golden Eagles (6-12 overall, 1-6 in the Big East) have one. Those six teams have an average NET of 108.1.
Marquette opens a three-game stretch against lower-group teams when it visits DePaul on Friday, Jan. 16. The Blue Demons (10-7, 2-4) have a NET of 120, compared with Marquette’s 148. Next week, Marquette hosts Providence (86) and then travels to Butler (61).
