Aaron Glenn will return for a second year as head coach for the New York Jets in 2026 but we already know some new hires are on the way.
The Jets finished the 2025 with a brutal 3-14 record. After a blowout loss to the Denver Broncos (14-3) in December, defensive coordinator Steve Wilks was fired. Chris Harris was named the interim but a full hire has yet to be announced.
As the season came to a close, some wondered what the fate of offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand would be. Could he follow Wilks?
As of now, it appears that won’t be the case. A report from ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler backed that.
Fowler reported this past week that the feeling in New York was the Engstrand’s job was safe.
Under Engstrand’s watch, New York was 10th in the league in rushing offense at 123.3 yards per game. The problem throughout 2025 was the passing attack, which finished dead last in the NFL averaging only 140.3 yards per outing.
Fowler’s full update can be found below:
Status quo on the Jets’ coaching staff as of Tuesday night. The team is wrapping up exit meetings, and the coaches are expected to meet mid-to-late week. My early sense is that the Jets keep offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand but that staff changes on offense could be on the way. But anything feels possible after a truly horrific passing game performance.
