Two hospitalized after head-on crash in Oceola Township

Two people were hospitalized with serious injuries following a head-on crash in Oceola Township on Jan. 7.

According to a press release from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, an 18-year-old Commerce Township man was driving a 2016 Jeep Wrangler west on Highland Road around 6 p.m. when he reportedly passed several other cars and crossed into oncoming traffic, striking a 2010 Chrysler 300.

There were two occupants inside the Chrysler — the driver, a 23-year-old Howell woman, and her passenger, a 24-year-old Harrison woman. LCSO said both had to be extricated from the car by the Howell Area Fire Department and were taken to University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor by Livingston County EMS.

The driver was in critical condition with life-threatening injuries. The passenger was in serious condition.

The driver of the Jeep suffered minor injuries and refused treatment at the scene. All occupants of both vehicles were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Alcohol does not appear to be a contributing factor, though speed may be a factor, according to LCSO. The incident remains under investigation by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Bureau.
