Former Madison County Treasurer Amanda DeVos has been charged with two additional felonies, bringing her total to six criminal charges.
DeVos, 38, has been embroiled in a year-long court case that began in January 2025 when she was arrested and charged with felonious misconduct in office, tampering with records, third-degree fraudulent practices and third-degree theft. According to criminal complaints, she allegedly falsified documents indicating she paid for a vehicle registration she did not, and she created a false receipt claiming full payment of her 2023–24 property taxes.

On Dec. 12, prosecutors added a charge of felonious misconduct in office relating to false entry, false return, false certificate or false receipt associated with her personal property taxes.
Prosecutors added another felonious charge, second-degree fraudulent practice, on Dec. 22. The charge alleges DeVos made an entry or altered records related to her personal property taxes in an amount between $1,500 and $10,000.
Both charges list an offense date of May 30, 2024.
A jury trial is set to begin May 5.
DeVos was elected in November 2022 and began her short and tumultuous time as treasurer in January 2023. After her arrest, DeVos posted bond and pleaded not guilty.
In April, Madison County Attorney Stephen Swanson filed a petition under Iowa Code Chapter 66 seeking DeVos’ removal from office. The petition cited her pending criminal charges, her failure to perform basic statutory duties and the erosion of public trust in the Treasurer’s Office.
DeVos resigned from her position in July days before her removal hearing stemming from the county attorney’s petition.
Previous court filings added allegations that DeVos neglected her duties, including misallocating more than $250,000 in municipal funds, not processing citizens’ payments promptly and delaying distributions to Winterset Public Schools and other tax-paying entities. She has not been charged in connection with such claims.
Kylee Barber, who was acting treasurer after DeVos’s arrest, is now the county treasurer.
