In a disappointing Week 17 contest, the Indianapolis Colts fell to the Jacksonville Jaguars 23–17, a loss that adds insult to injury after already being eliminated from playoff contention.
It was the team’s sixth consecutive loss. Here’s everything to know from the Colts’ performance.
Indianapolis struck first, grinding out an 8-play, 29-yard drive that ended with Blake Grupe’s 33-yard field goal, giving the Colts an early 3–0 lead in a defensive-leaning first quarter.
The Colts then extended their advantage in the second quarter on a marathon 15-play, 83-yard drive, capped by Jonathan Taylor’s 3-yard touchdown run, pacing Indianapolis to a 10–0 lead and forcing Jacksonville to rally.
The Jaguars responded before the break, riding a 12-play, 69-yard drive that ended with Trevor Lawrence’s 4-yard touchdown run, trimming the Colts’ edge to 10–7 at halftime. In the second half, the Colts momentarily regained the lead in the third quarter when Philip Rivers connected with Mo Alie-Cox on a 5-yard touchdown pass, putting Indianapolis up 17–14, but the Jaguars answered and took command late with a touchdown and a field goal.
Indianapolis’ offense, which rode methodical drives all afternoon, could not muster enough late pressure to retake the lead, and the defense, despite bending, was unable to make the critical stop when it mattered most.
Now Indianapolis must turn its attention to the Houston Texans, for their final contest of the season after the new year.
