Police pursuit turns into double fatal crash in Waverly

WAVERLY — The Portsmouth Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a double fatal crash that included a police pursuit on Dec. 26.

The crash occurred at approximately 7:04 p.m. at the intersection of US 23 and North Market Street in Waverly.

A 2011 Ford Fusion, driven by Davina K. Arthur, 46, of Friendship, Ohio, was engaged in pursuit with the Chillicothe Police Department southbound on US 23. Arthur continued to drive through Waverly and ran a red light and struck a 2025 Ford Escape driven by William K. Gildow, 63, of Waverly, according to a new release by the patrol.

Both Arthur and Gildow were declared dead and were transported to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office. A passenger in Arthur’s vehicle, Homer R. Bailey III, 66, of West Portsmouth, was transported to Grant Hospital for treatment.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted by the Pike County Prosecutor’s Office, Waverly Police Department, Waverly Fire Department, Peeble and Pee Pee Township Fire Department and Portsmouth Ambulance.

The crash remains under investigation.
