PEORIA – A second person has been arrested in connection with a shooting that left a 17-year-old dead and another man injured.
The Peoria Police Department said 23-year-old Reginald Flemister-Tolson was taken into custody without incident on Nov. 26 and faces charges of home invasion, armed robbery and aggravated battery with a firearm.
A 17-year-old was also charged in connection with the case but was not named because of his age. The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office had planned to file a motion to transfer the case to adult court, according to a news release.
Peoria police officers were sent to Lexington Hills Apartments on the night of Nov. 22 after receiving reports of shots fired.
A 17-year-old male, Matthew Day of Peoria, was found unresponsive with gunshot wounds to the torso. He was taken to a local hospital but was later pronounced deceased. A 21-year-old was also taken to a local hospital with gunshot wounds to the legs.
A search warrant executed on the phone of the unnamed 17-year-old revealed messages between him and Day coordinating the home invasion, including plans to stage the defendant as a victim during the incident, according to the State’s Attorney’s Office.
