Springfield to see high winds followed by snow this weekend

SPRINGFIELD – If you left the house Wednesday morning, you noticed the high winds, unless you had pumpkin pie and turkey on the brain. The wind is just the beginning of a busy weather weekend in Springfield.

A Wind Advisory will be in effect on Nov. 26 from around noon to 6 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

Many counties, including Sangamon, are expected to see winds at 20 to 30 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph.

Snow this weekend

Springfield has a 30 to 50% chance of seeing more than three inches of snow this weekend, according to a graphic from the weather service out of Lincoln on the social media platform X.

Snow is likely after midnight on Friday (into Saturday). The chance of precipitation is 70%.

Saturday shows snow before noon, then rain and snow. There will be a high near 37.

Areas further north in the state have a 50 to 70% chance of receiving more than three inches of snow.

And areas north of Chicago have 70 to 90% chance of seeing more than three inches.

Forecast on Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving will see a high near 38 with gusts as high as 22 mph.

Black Friday will see a high near 35.
