The mid-Hudson Valley’s favorite Thanksgiving pie is a traditional favorite.
In a recent readers poll, 50% of voters chose pumpkin pie, which has long been closely tied to the holiday.
Walk down the aisles in any grocery store or supermarket in the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving, and you’ll find shelves stocked with cans of pumpkin pie filling.
Pillsbury and other companies even sell pre-made frozen pie crusts for those who don’t want to make their own.
Apple pie was a strong runner-up among the other competitors, with 27.04% of the votes, just over half the amount who voted for pumpkin pie.
Pecan pie was a distant third, with 10.42% of the votes.
Apparently, not everyone who sits down to Thanksgiving dinner wants a pie, as we saw when we got to fourth place on the poll list.
While cherry pie finished in that spot, with 4.17% of the votes, it was tied with “something other than pie.” Perhaps some prefer cake or ice cream after their turkey dinner.
Two other pies rounded out the survey and the list. Sweet potato pie and chocolate cream pie each received 2.98% of the vote.
We also asked readers to suggest another kind of pie, but that choice got no votes, and no suggestions were offered.
So Happy Thanksgiving, and enjoy your pie, whichever one you choose!
