With 14 minutes remaining in the regular-season finale, the Hope College men’s soccer team wouldn’t be denied a conference championship.
After Trine scored to tie the game, Hope’s Jackson Mindling responded with two goals in the final 6 minutes of the game to earn a 3-1 win on Wednesday, Oct. 29. It is Hope’s first outright regular-season title since 2006 and 16th title overall.
With 6 minutes to go, Mindling scored on an assist from Seth Walters.
Two minutes later, Mindling launched one into the top right corner of the goal from 30 yards out to put the exclamation point on the win, a hat trick and the MIAA regular-season championship.
Hope (6-0-1) will be the top seed for next week’s MIAA Tournament after closing the regular-season on a six-game win streak.
Calvin and Albion tied for second at 5-1-1.
Mindling scored with 25 minutes to go in the second half on an assist from Ryker Corstange.
Hope goalie Daniel Morgan, a Holland native and former all-state player at Holland Christian, had one save in goal for the win.
