Lakers provide unfortunate injury update on Maxi Kleber

The Los Angeles Lakers begin their 2025-26 regular-season schedule on Tuesday evening at home against the Golden State Warriors during NBC’s first night of NBA games since 2002. Outside of LeBron James’ bout with sciatica, which is expected to keep him out until at least mid-November, they will be at close to full strength.

But one other player who will not be available for them is big man Maxi Kleber. He was listed as questionable on the injury report for Tuesday’s game, but he will not play. In fact, he will reportedly miss at least the next two weeks due to an oblique strain.

Kleber could come in handy for a Lakers team that doesn’t have the greatest depth in the NBA at the center position. He has historically been a solid defender and 3-point shooter, and at 6-foot-10 and 240 pounds, he has decent size and can bang a little in the paint.

However, last season, he shot just 38.5% from the field and 26.5% from 3-point range before a foot injury ended his year in January. He came to the Lakers as part of the Luka Doncic trade in February.
