Milwaukee TV station WTMJ-TV, also known as TMJ4, has announced that Karley Marotta will return to her hometown and join the station as the city’s first female sports director.
Marotta, whose roots in Milwaukee run deep, comes from WKOW-TV in Madison. When she was elevated to the role of sports director in 2022, she became Madison’s first female sports director.
The former athlete at Homestead High School in Mequon also worked as an intern at TMJ4 and at WISN-TV as an intern in the sports department while attending Indiana University. She then became a weekend sports anchor and reporter for WXOW in La Crosse, beginning in 2017, before moving to Madison in 2020.
He father, Marc Marotta, was a standout basketball player at Marquette University and became chairman of the BMO Harris Bradley Center board; he died unexpectedly at age 52 in 2015.
Marotta will join the station officially in January. TMJ4 didn’t previously have a sports director.
