What Jonathan Smith had to say after embarrassing loss vs. UCLA

“Not good enough, starting with myself.”

For a second straight week, Michigan State head coach Jonathan Smith pointed the finger at himself and the staff for why the Spartans weren’t victorious. And this week, in particular, was even more glaring for Smith.

The Spartans were blown out by UCLA on Homecoming, losing by the final score of 38-13. Michigan State jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead only to let the Bruins score the next 38 points unanswered and dominate the Spartans. It was as embarrassing of a loss as I’ve seen for the Spartans in quite some time, and that’s saying something after how things have gone recently.

With the loss, Michigan State has now dropped all three of its Big Ten games and is in the midst of a three-game losing streak. The Spartans are 3-3 overall and there is now concern on whether or not Michigan State will win another game this season.

Following the loss, Smith met with the media to break down the embarrassing performance and provide his thoughts on how Michigan State can bounce back. Check out that full press conference in the video below — courtesy of Spartan Mag:
