The Michigan State Police is investigating a double fatal crash that occurred Oct. 4 in Pittsford Township.
Preliminary investigation showed a motorcycle, operated by a Manitou Beach man with a female passenger from Hudson, was traveling northbound on US-127 and attempting to pass another vehicle when it swerved to avoid a collision with oncoming traffic and crashed into a ditch.

Both occupants were ejected from the motorcycle, police said, and neither were wearing a helmet. Witnesses stopped to provide medical aid until paramedics arrived. Despite life-saving efforts, both were pronounced dead at the scene.
According to police, witnesses said the motorcycle was traveling at high rates of speed prior to the crash, weaving in and out of traffic and passing in a no-passing zone.
